Kalahari voted best in e-shopping

For the second year running, Kalahari.net has been named South Africa’s Best e-Commerce Store of 2007.

The South African E-Commerce Awards are coordinated by the shopping search site Jump Shopping, and take into account range, price, design, ease of use and quality of service.

Kalahari.net was also named Best Online Bookstore, and Best Online Jewellery and Watch Store.

The 2007 awards saw a large number of new entries nominated by the public. “It is a clear indication that the standard of local e-commerce stores has vastly improved from the previous year,” says Albert Bredenhann, managing director of Jump Shopping.

He adds that he expects to see an e-commerce boom within the next two years due to increased access to broadband as well as the entrance of offline stores going online.

The South African e-Commerce Awards seeks to acknowledge South African e-commerce stores displaying impressive growth and increased activity. The 2007 awards received more than 17,000 votes by the public for their preferred online stores. Including the public during the nomination process ensured a fair and diverse selection of entries into the competition. Nominations were short-listed and again presented to the public for final voting over the course of a month. The votes for each nomination were then presented to a panel of judges for moderation and final winner selection.

“E-Commerce in South Africa is definitely on the right track and, with the anticipated growth of broadband penetration in South Africa, I think we can expect great things from online shopping in the next two years,” says Matthew Buckland, general manager of the Mail & Guardian Online, and one of the judges at this year’s awards.
